We had the good fortune of connecting with Deniece Edwards and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deniece, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I wanted to create a media platform where we could be transparent about walking through life as a Christian. Many Christians are afraid to share things and I wanted to have a platform that’s safe in a non-judgment zone.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your company and what sets you apart from others?
We are a faith-based broadcast company that covers events in a non-traditional way. Meaning you may catch us interviewing someone at a bar about the goodness of Jesus Christ. We cover secular and other genre music events such as the BET Awards, BET Hip Hop Awards, Grammys, Billboard Awards, AMA’s, Academy of Country Music Awards, just to name a few.
What are you most proud of or excited about?
My team is able to bring their talents to the table and grow in their own lane.
How did you get to where you are today professionally?
Being God fearing who stepped out on faith despite what others would say. I was dedicated, consistent, persistent, humble and a risk taker who never allowed a NO to stop me.
Was it easy?
Absolutely Not!! It takes a lot of work and dedication. It’s a 9-5 on top of my regular 9-5. You must have a passion that is driven by a goal.
How did you overcome the challenges?
Keep pushing forward and not looking back. Did I get discouraged, absolutely. Several times but I had to look at the bigger picture. My platform is to build God’s kingdom and change lives through Jesus Christ.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
As a young child, Deniece always knew that she would work in entertainment. From seeing her comical family perform around the house to being able to perform in school programs and talent shows. Deniece was born to entertain. After high school, she attended the University of Houston-Downtown. While pursuing her Communication degree, Deniece landed an Internship at Music World Record label the home of Destiny Child in 2001. While interning there she landed another internship with Power 97.5 then later became a Promotion Assistant. She later moved to Los Angeles and worked for Radio Disney. Her ultimate dream was to be a Radio Personality. Today she is living her dream as the host of The Not So Christian In Me Show. Her talk radio show is faith-based, funny, and edgy. No topics are off-limits. She will talk about inspirational moments, faith based topics, comedy relief moments and so much more.
“Never give up on your dream because your dream is not giving up on you. Remember, If it’s meant to be it will come back around in the form of a Blessing. God Bless”.- Southern Girl Deniece

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well anything I put together would be adventures and you won’t have time to sleep…LOL Here’s my 1 day itinerary
As a local Houstonian, there are so many places to visit. For start from the time she/he arrive from IAH on a Friday night we will be on the go non-stop we will get breakfast from Harry’s downtown, then check in at the Marriott downtown, change clothes and go sight seeing in the art district then grab lunch from Lucille’s. After lunch we will go lounge at the pool at the Marriott, then we may take a nap if time permits (lol) and prepare for the night life. We will go to Turkey Leg hut then to Faces, Bar 5015 and end it at the Spot in 3rd Ward then Velvet Tacos on Washington.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
