We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Ortiz-Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, what inspires you?
I am inspired by father – not only his drive but also his view on life and all that it has to offer. He had kidney disease most of his life and all of my life and that never stopped him. It taught me to never take movement for granted. Our lives are precious and it is a privilege to live them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a personal trainer and content creator and I am so proud of myself because I recently launched my own app. I think when people hear that I am a content creator, I kind of get boxed into a category of just that, but there is so much more to me. I began my journey in entrepreneurship with no followers and have gained them along the way through in-person training and posting motivating content that others resonate with. It was not always easy, I began training clients in my parents living room and then when classes got larger, I moved to the park down the street and lugged all my equipment with me. I centered myself around a great support system that always had my back in times of challenge – my mom and sister were essential in helping my get to where I am today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am not based in Houston, but my followers and app users are! My sister and mom now live in Austin, so I visit them quite a bit. We love exploring all of Texas. One of my fav spots in Houston is The Breakfast Klub – everyone’s so nice and I am obsessed with the chicken and waffles.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my mother! She is resilient, driven, strong and so much more. She is the glue in our family. No matter what, she was always there for us. When she met my father, they were both 15 and he was diagnosed with kidney disease at 16. That did not stop her from loving him the rest of his life and showing up consistently for everyone else in her life as well. Her compassion and strength are things I will always admire.
