We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Elise and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I first graduated college, I only had my corporate job and I would do math tutoring on the side, so keeping a level work-life balance was pretty easy. Now, I have a lot more on my plate, but some of my work is built around my lifestyle. I still have my corporate job, and I work from home so the hours are very flexible. On top of that, I am a content creator and a Realtor. My social platforms focus on my fitness journey and my relationship with my partner. Even though this involves activites that I would be doing regardless of social media, there is still plenty of time involved with recording and editing. I’m just getting started with real estate, so it hasn’t started taking up too much of my time just yet. I’m definitely still trying to figure out how to balance everthing efficiently, but it helps when your work doesn’t feel like your working!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a young Houston Realtor, I am focusing on assisting first time home buyers with buying their dream home. I went through the home buying process at 23 years old, so I understand how it can feel overwhelming when you adulting hits you all of a sudden! Luckily, I had my aunt, now broker, to walk me through the entire process and explaining every step of the way. I want to be able to support other young home buyers in the same way that my aunt supported me. It was challenging because I was house hunting around the time that interest rates were going up and houses were getting snatched up QUICK. I was lucky that I was able to secure the house that I wanted!
As a content creator, I have a couple different platforms under my belt and I have learned that consistency is key. As an individual content creator, I focus on health, fitness, and travel content. My girlfriend and I also have a platform together that has gotten a lot of attention. When we first started our TikTok, we posted 3-5 times a day. EVERY SINGLE DAY. We are now at 50K+ followers on TikTok and 3K+ Youtube followers within 6 months. Posting and editing content takes more time than most realize and it can get very overwhelming! Luckily, us having a joint account splits the work in half, and scheduling out your content helps with organization.
Lastly, I am a corporate baddie! I have been blessed to have a flexible WFH position that funds my other endeavors. It definitely gets diffcult balancing my never ending to-do list out, but my 9-5 gets priority since I wouldn’t be able to do anything else without it! I have learned to write down all of my tasks throughout the day and not stress if I’m not able to get everything done. I want the world to know that it is possible to have it all, you just have to work for it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of course, I would have to take them to one of the biggest Houston staples, The Breakfast Klub! We would have to go early in the morning to avoid the line 🙂 Another one of my favorite breakfast spots is Harry’s. For lunch, we would get Mexican food at Blanco Cocina. And for dinner we would get sushi at Ten!
I also love walking through or picnicing at Buffalo Bayou park when it’s not too hot outside. Discovery Green and Post HTX always have yoga / workout classes the enjoy and meet new people.
If my friend is lucky, Physical Therapy or Feed the Soul Productions would be putting on an event! If not, the Flat is a chill spot that I love going to.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout my family for pushing me to try my best at everything I do! They have paved the way with being successful entrepreneurs and making sure me and my brother stay on track with our education and athletics. They helped me build a foundation for my career path today and I am very thankful for them.
I would also love to give a shoutout to my partner. She has pulled me out of my introverted shell which has opened the door for infinite opporutunities. She motivates me every single day to be a better person, and I can’t imagine how my life would be without meeting her.
