We had the good fortune of connecting with JocQ and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JocQ, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued becoming a professional R&B artist in attempt to align with my purpose. I’ve always involved myself in musical endeavors, yet nothing seemed to fill me until I began writing & performing music for myself. I’m so glad I did because it has been a breathe of fresh air making music that impacts others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been singing my entire life. Grew up in the church and still to this day am very involved with my church home. I have been writing & performing R&B music 2021 & dropped my 1st single in 2022 titled “Get Back to Love”,

I believe what sets me apart as a artist is my approach to my music & my passion for authentic, timeless music. I do not just want to make music that is here today and gone tomorrow, I aspire to make music that will surpass me once I am gone. This impacts how I write & the details I work to put into my music.

I am most proud of the journey I’ve experienced thus far. I have impacted so many lives in this early season of my career. Even going as far as having couples approach me and explain how my music has strengthened their marriage.

I’ve learned a few things through this journey so far. One being “Keep Going” consistency is so key in life, and music is no different. You never know when that thing you have been working for is going to come to fruition. Secondly, I would say “be a sponge to the industry” learn as much as you can & never stop acquiring information about a field you claimed you wanted to be a part of. This walk has not been easy & has been full of learning experiences any plenty of missed opportunities. Nevertheless, when I have a setback of any sorts I do my best to work through it. I find solace in knowing the end goal & truly understanding God makes No mistakes!

When you listen to my music you will hear the passion from the melodies sung. You will feel the words exude directly from my heart. Lastly, you will receive a sense of emotion pulling you in a direction that is curated for that moment in time.
Good Music Always Lives!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has the luxury of being the most diverse city in America, so options are endless. I am very eclectic when it comes to things I enjoy. I can take my friends to the many restaurants in the city from Brunch to Late night food trucks. I can take my friends to the beautiful malls in the city: You have the Galleria, The Outlets, City Centre. We can go watch all of our winning sports teams in the city! We can go shopping in the many markets off of Harwin! We can also go enjoy the always jumping night life. You have the chill relaxing vibes of places like Patterson on the Park, Bar 5015, Off The Record which is located downtown. The parks in the city are so peaceful as well! Only thing we don’t have here is a Amusement park & a Beach lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
1st & foremost I want to give a shoutout to my Lord & savior Jesus Christ, without him I am nothing. Next, I’d like to shoutout my loving family & friends who keep me grounded and support my efforts. Lastly, I want to give a shoutout to my “Shadow Mentors” to the ones who have no idea that I watch their every move by way of admiration & motivation.
