We had the good fortune of connecting with Francisco Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Francisco, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Simply put, good photography is about storytelling. Through a still visual medium, but still deeply rooted in story. When I work with clients, be that architecture, portraiture, or any other genre of photography, I always prioritize story over everything. Stories help drive forward the messages we want to communicate and also allow us to view life through an abstract lens, no pun intended. Many of my clients are a mix of designers, artists, or builders in some capacity, and their journey of creation, through blood, sweat, and tears, has led them to complete the building, the artwork, or the house. It is my job to understand their story, so that I can interpret their finished project into a series of photographs that work to communicate the context of their creation.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I hope that my art feels honest, first and foremost, and that people are able to connect with it that way. I try to be creative and imaginative with my approach without loosing the compass of truth. I am most excited about connecting with clients and people that value this, because that is where the strongest conversations and collaborations happen.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is filled a never-ending list of possibilities for fun, so this is my definitive itinerary. I would start the day by going to Catalina Coffee, which makes the best coffee. Then we would go to Menil Park for a walk, visiting all the museums around there. My favorite is the Rothko Chapel. For a late lunch and drinks, chef Hugo’s Oaxaca inspired restaurant Xochi is a must. Everything there is an adventure to the palate. In the evening, a show at the Alley Theatre, and afterwards for dinner we would walk to Frank’s Pizza. That’s an ideal day. For the rest of the week, I would try and catch some more theatre productions, especially anything by Dirt Dogs, Stages, or 4th Wall. More museum visits are always fun, such as the Blaffer Art Museum, the Contemporary Arts Museum, or local smaller galleries such as the ones run by Adam Marnie (F Magazine) or Stinson House. I would also try some more coffee spots as there is a never-ending list of interesting spots to try.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be where I am today with all the people around me. I am a firm believer that you are the result of who you surround yourself with, and to name and explain their impact on me would take a couple of days, and maybe a couple bottles of whiskey, to recount. So, as brevity is the soul of wit, I will be brief. Most notably, I would like to highlight my colleagues Sean Fleming and Vladimir Ambia have been instrumental in helping me navigate the often tremulous waters that is having a photography business. I would not be where I am today if it were not for their wisdom and guidance. They believed in me, and I am deeply grateful.
