We had the good fortune of connecting with Ravyn Joseph and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ravyn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking a risk is always something that people think about no matter what. If I do this what’s going to happen or if I don’t do it what’s going to happen. I say, just take the risk. Whether it turns out the way you expected or not, you’ll always learn a lesson and you’ll know how to proceed in the future. Taking a risk has put me in the position I am now to start my business. I quit my job of nine years, moved to Houston with no job and started working on my business. Of course I had some bumps along the road but you just have to push forward and pray through everything.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So, I do a lot. I work in Health Care Administration full time and am working on my business Nyvar Clothing Boutique as well. I’m mostly proud that my determination won’t let me quit no matter how tired I am and how frustrated things can be. I learned early on in life that being professional and having a good rapport with people takes you a long way. No, it wasn’t easy because it was days I just wanted to give up but I knew giving up wasn’t an option. My grandmother went back to college in her sixties and graduated. Her ability to do that always stuck with me and encouraged me to never quit and never let the thoughts of age ever get in your way. I want the world to know that I’m a force to be reckoned with. This is only the beginning and my brand is going to takeover. We’ll be a household name very soon all over the world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friends and I would probably do brunch at either Chapman and Kirby or Grace’s, definitely have a spa day where we can relax. We live to eat so dinner would be something different every night or somewhere we’ve never been. We like to try new places to eat. And we can’t leave out shopping. I’m a shopper so all my friends know shopping will always be involved.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents…they have always supported me in whatever I wanted to do no matter how crazy it sounded or how far fetched it may have been. They have literally been my backbone in life.
