We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been a planner and organizer my whole life. I enjoyed my planner being filled out, color coordinated, creating daily routines, packing precisely for trips, and making sure my days had a purpose. After college I transferred my love of planning and organizing into being a classroom teacher. Planning and organizing were major keys to successful days for me. Then came my own wedding. I found a joy I hadn’t had before in all the small details of my wedding. The more planned out and organized I was, the more I wanted to do. It was one of the best times of my life. It wasn’t until a couple months after my wedding was over I realized how much I missed planning my wedding. I had finally found the perfect outlet for a talent I had been cultivating my whole life. I reached out to some wedding planners I knew, became certified, assisted at a couple weddings and I just knew this was my future. With extreme joy, excitement and some hesitation, Moonstruck Events was born.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
After 13 years in the classroom, I set out to start my dream business. Moonstruck Events has been the best decision I ever made. With all of the amazing support I had, the transition from teaching to wedding planning was a natural fit for me. While worthwhile, it hasn’t always been easy! This new endeavor came with countless tears, brainstorming sessions with loved ones, trial and error, and just good old fashioned elbow grease. However, it also came with new adventures that helped me grow not only my brand, but myself. Through hard work, continual education, and my indispensable support team, Moonstruck is thriving more than I could have ever dreamed. We will be celebrating our company’s first birthday on May 19, 2021! The success we have found in just one short year is nothing short of amazing and I could not be more excited about what’s yet to come!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Because Houston is a wealth of opportunity for new adventures, it is almost impossible to narrow everything down! When the weather is gorgeous, some of my favorite places to visit are Market Square Park (especially when they are showing a movie outside!), the botanical gardens for some beautiful photo ops, or Buffalo Bayou to immerse yourself in Houston’s scenery. Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Natural Science also showcase some of the incredible cultural and educational artifacts found in this city. And while touring all of the experiences Houston has to offer, a few stops at some of Houston’s most infamous breweries are a definite must! Some of my top faves are 8th Wonder, Saint Arnold, Buffalo Bayou Brewing, Under the Radar, and Karbach Brewing. We would head to Mellow Mushroom or Rodeo Goat or grab something at The Rustic to eat. There’s so much to do in Huston, we would need more than a week to fit it all in!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people to name, I don’t even know where to start! But first, my very supportive husband. I definitely would not have had the courage to start this amazing company. My best friends are also so incredibly supportive and encouraging, they drop everything to come and help just to help me succeed at my dream. They have been some of my biggest cheerleaders. And I’ve been so lucky to meet some awesome wedding professionals that truly believe in community over competition. Their guidance, support, encouragement has blown me away and I am so grateful to have them in my life.
