We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Renee Gentle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Renee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own practice was fueled by my passion to help people. Most importantly, my passion to help transform the health of the black communities of Houston. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a doctor, I just didn’t know what kind. I stumbled across Chiropractic after sustaining an athletic injury in college and it was such a life changing experience for me. I remember the day I went in for treatment and after leaving I just kept telling myself “Wow this woman really changed my life”. She gave me back my hope of having an amazing senior season. She gave me my life back. I just KNEW that chiropractic was exactly how I wanted to give back to my community and impact lives the same mine was. At the time, that injury sucked, but looking back I thank God for that opportunity to learn about chiropractic. That very moment ignited a new passion in me and ultimately my future career.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Owner and lead Chiropractor of The Gentle Chiro here in Houston. My practice focuses on family wellness chiropractic. I treat babies and the elderly and everyone in between. I strive to not only educate my patients on the importance of chiropractic but also the health disparities that plague the black communities. Providing patients with the resources and the help they need even if the care isn’t provided by me is the end goal! I am most excited about how much my practice has grown in the past 4 months and how much more growth there is to come. I got to where I am today because of my determination and passion to serve the people of my community. It has taken a lot of patience, perseverance and most importantly prayer to get here. Another huge driving factor has been to embody the person that I needed as a little girl. I try to be the very best I can to be an inspiration for all to see that this can be done, you can have it all. This journey has not been easy, but it has been worth it. With the amazing support system that I have, I am reminded every day that I can, and I did do everything I said I wanted to and more! My biggest lesson in this process has been to learn to ask for help. I tend to be a person that will try to do everything by myself and suffer in silence. But this journey has humbled me for sure and I had to learn to ask for help. I want my story to inspire women to pursue your passion, no dream is too big or bold. That very dream was placed on your heart for a reason. Keep going after it even if it doesn’t go the way you planned because the end result God has for you is way better than what you could have imagined!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town visiting, I would definitely take them to get the best tacos in town at my favorite restaurant Casa Nueva. We would hit an escape room because that’s just how we are and things like that excite us. A good nail salon or spa day with wine would be on the agenda as well. We would absolutely spend most our time seeking out the good eats around Houston!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my amazing and supporting parents. Thank you for ALWAYS believing in me and my big bold dreams. You are always there to pick me up when the weight of the world is on my shoulders, to remind me of my “why” when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I don’t think anyone sets higher expectations for me than I do myself, so they are always there to remind me to give myself grace. I don’t think I could ever repay Ya’ll for all that you’ve done, but I do know that I strive to make you proud every single day. I’d also like to thank my entire support system throughout this process. Words can’t describe how much I appreciate you all!
