We had the good fortune of connecting with Narayan Naidu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Narayan, what inspires you?
Now of days there are so many different things to get inspired by. Personally, I feel like my inspirations come from a wide range of sources. Some of my favorite artists that I feel inspire by are Davide Sorrenti. Kid Cudi, Van Gogh, and Kanye West. Currently, my favorite photographers that are still coming up whose work inspires me are Neri and Yasi. However, I might get clowned for this but the place where I get most of my artistic inspirations is Pinterest. It’s such a great platform to look for the exact art styles you want to see and get inspiration from while also learning new styles of art that you wouldn’t have known of.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would like to explain more about my art but I feel like I don’t even know what it is, my style is still growing into what I want my art to be and I feel like I’m going in the right direction but I don’t know what it will evolve into because I’m constantly growing. I guess that’s how you describe my art its always changing, evolving, and different. Although I love photography, it restricts me artistically so I love trying new mediums of art and evolving into different styles. I recently started doing 3d animation and character design and I feel like that might be a future for my art as I feel like its endless, you can make so much in a program like blender and I have endless ideas for things I make, the only thing restricting me is the knowledge I have using the software. For photography, I have the same mentality with wanting to evolve and change after every photoshoot or event so I could always have fun with photography and it will never get boring. I started trying some graphic design on my photos and I’m really having fun with it. I’m also trying to work on a photo magazine to highlight Houston’s underground music scene and how diverse it truly is. One thing I value in my art is having a purpose with the photos I take but also just having fun while creating cause if I’m not having fun making my art and expressing myself I feel like there’s no purpose in my art.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, I don’t know much about the city, the reason I even started this photography stuff is to learn more about Houston and its culture and I felt like the best way to do it was to explore Houston’s underground music scene. I’m just so intrigued by the culture and everything happening in the city as Houston is one of the most diverse and biggest cities in America. From almost a year of me doing photography and learning more about the city, I really feel like sanman studios is a key part of Houston’s artistic culture and is a place I recommend as there’s always a crazy event happening there every month and a bunch of Houston creatives pop out every time and I’ve got to meet some of my favorite unknown Houston creatives there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many different people I can thank for helping me get started with my photography career but I would like to thank Paris Aden (@parisaden) and Pierre (@11.pierre) they were some of the first people that I met when I started Concert photography and were kind of enough to let me photograph the shows they were throwing even though I didn’t have the best photos when I started. However, these people trusted me enough to photograph their shows with me having no experience in photography or even attending concerts. I think the only other concerts I had been to before I started photographing them was a Fall Out Boys concert at the Houston rodeo when I was like 9 years old. After I photographed these concerts it helped me develop a portfolio allowing me to start photographing more shows and getting to meet some really cool and nice people along the way. Also, I wanna shout out some underrated photographers that I really mess with like Hendry (@shotbydry), Aaron (@byaaronj), (@IsaihasProphecy). Another artist whose art I really like is Mannsin.(@man.n.sin)
