We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Abella and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My idea of work life balance has definitely shifted over time. In my first business, I basically had none. I started as a financial writer and blogger and after six years I realized that if I wanted to ever be able to have a break, that I would need to make some changes. I didn’t grow up around entrepreneurs or a conversation about wealth, so I didn’t know that when you build businesses you want to build something that can run without you. So I made the mistake a lot of us make – I built a business that owned me instead of me owning it.
In 2017, I started my transition out of the first business. The first step was creating high ticket digital training programs so I could leverage my time better. After a year, I was making more money selling training programs and group coaching than I was writing. Within 18 months I hired my first employee. The next couple of years would be really challenging as I shifted the business to a more scalable model, changed audiences, hired and trained employees and built out infrastructure – I actually worked harder than I’ve ever worked in my life during that time. But I knew it was a temporary season, and now that we’re on the other side of that I’m only working four days a week while earning much more than I ever have before. We’re on track for our first 7-figure year to be 2022.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Make Money Your Honey is a marketing and sales training company that helps women triple their revenue while working half the time. We do this by helping our clients implement a framework that covers systems, influence and sales skills.
Our clients have gone from hating sales to closing multiple-five-figure deals, generated five figures in sales per month in 60 days, closed 13 new clients in four weeks, increase their close rates by at least 30 percentage points and have gone from feeling exhausted making $7k per month working 7 days per week to having their first $17k week while working less hours.
Our mission is to equip and inspire women around the world to realize their true financial potential so they can provide for future generations, impact their communities and make the world a better place.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First thing we would have to do is get Cuban coffee in Little Havana. People who’ve never had it take one sip and are hooked. Little Havana is also the heart of the Cuban community which has influenced Miami so much.
If someone has never been to Miami before then you have to take them to Miami Beach because it is definitely unique. Our beaches are also stunning because they have a bit of Caribbean turquoise in the water. First South Beach so they see the famous South Beach and then further North to actually enjoy the beach without all the tourists.
From there it would depend on what they enjoy. Do they like art? We have a whole arts district for that. Are they a foodie? Miami has food from all over the world. Do they enjoy water sports? We can do that too.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people! Barbara Huson (formerly known as Stanny) who wrote Overcoming Underearning and Secrets of Six-Figure Women. Her books changed my life. Grant Cardone has also had a huge impact on me – especially when it came to really understanding sales and thinking bigger. His worked helped me transition from freelancer to CEO.
