We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Russ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m 110% inspired by the movers and the shakers in my industry & beyond. By the women I see being mothers, friends, wives, business owners – just being, and doing it well! They make me want to be better and chase every dream, crush every goal, live life to the absolute fullest.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We all have a story. We have our own traumas and hardships. I came from a single parent household, growing up I endured a lot of hard things that pushed me to make adult decisions. I know everything I went through brought me to where I am, so of course I wouldn’t change a thing. My business is a representative of that. I share the same comfort, empowerment and self care advocacy that got me through life up until this point with every skincare or beauty treatment I provide to my clients. Being a business owner in any industry, you have got to stay true to you. Don’t do what you think will get you the most traffic or money. You’ve got to be authentic, that’s what the people want and need… Success takes time, but stay true to your mission and it will come. I’ve learned that over time. I’m still not where I want to be with PYNK skincare, but I’m staying true to Ashley & PYNK. It’s working.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely would have to get them in for a visit at PYNK, I love sharing the experience with people in my life & it’d be the perfect start to a good vacay… After, we’d have to visit Miyako for Happy Hour sushi at some point & grab some Chai Tea ice cream from Fat Cat Creamery in a brown sugar cone. Yum! I’d take them to visit the Montrose area to thrift, check out shops & small businesses, then grab coffee at Agora and people watch. Also would have to stop at the Contemporary Art museum and grab a scoop of gelato at Sweet Cup (I clearly love to eat.) Enjoying all of the awesome, one of a kind Houston eateries is a must!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Love the concept of The Shoutout series because I’m such a firm believer in the importance of relationships! We need each other. I would not be where I am without mine. It’s hard to narrow it down because I’m blessed with so many incredible people. Firstly, my mother and husband for pushing me to even do it in the first place. Despite every doubt and fear I had, they believed in me. Secondly, my mother in law for supporting me as a mama and making it possible for me to do what I love. Of course my beautiful son, he is the driving force behind every decision I make and keeps me strong when I feel like giving up. My amazing best friend and sister for being there at the drop of the hat anytime I need her. & Lastly, my amazing clients for keeping me busy – without them, I’d be nothing! That’s really not it, there’s many more people I could mention, but you know exactly who you are.
