We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynthia Facundo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cynthia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had always wanted to start my own business. As I spent time working for different companies, I was confident I could do this for myself and make it more people centered! I wanted my work to help people; what better way than to help them make their dream of owning their own business come to life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got into the accounting field when I was 20 years old. A friend of mine convinced me to take a accounting course. I am not sure what possessed me to say yes. I was a musician. I played the trumpet for years, but I always like a good challenge. I registered and enjoyed the class, so I decided to get my degree in Accounting. I had started The Bookkeeping Key in 2009, and in 2011 my business partner and my mother passed away. It was a great blow. There were many times that I wanted to quit, but I was surrounded by family and friends that loved and cared about me. They helped me through those dark days.

If there is anything that I have learned it is to never give up, surround yourself with people who believe in you, and always treat people with compassion and respect. Never judge someone’s circumstance. We have all traveled hard roads. I believe that is what sets my company apart from others. We really do care. We take the time to work with our clients to provide them the services they need at a cost that is fiscally logical. That is the legacy that I want to leave. I believe everyone would benefit from having bookkeeping as a tool in their entrepreneurial back pocket. If they cannot afford to outsource to us, we are able to help train their own employees. I strive to make everyone I meet feel heard and comfort by the fact they are capable of controlling of their financial future.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the arts and small cafe’s. We would go to museums, maybe some antique shops. Have coffee and lunch at an interesting cafe, some down time hanging out by the pool, and watching some good movies. Just spending time talking and enjoying each other’s company.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a few people to thank for getting started on my journey to entrepreneurship. 1st, my mother, who always believed I could do anything I set my mind to. She pushed me to continue to reach for the stars. 2nd, my business partner Sherry Adams. When I quite my oil and gas job, she encouraged me to start my company. These 2 women were huge forces in my life and unfortunately, both have been gone 13 years. I miss them both every day. Because of their belief in me, I continue. I am also very lucky to have many friends and family members that believe in me and of course, I believe in myself. Mindset is everything. Is everyday rosy, absolutely not, but I know that every situation changes and we must see the silver lining.
