We had the good fortune of connecting with Dani Banks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dani, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly…I’ve had so many jobs where the managers would have me do these tasks & processes that didn’t always make sense to me. When I asked questions or made suggestions, it was frowned upon. I found myself saying “If this was my business, I’d do xyz…” So I decided to create one doing things that I love! And let’s be honest, being able to make decisions and police myself is an amazing perk! 😌

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my journey in Cosmetology school in 2013. That seems like so long ago. I went to school for 1 year, with all the trials and hardships (along with the fact that I HATE doing hair), I left school to focus on saving money to change my situation. I got the courage to enroll back in school in 2016, but this time in esthetics…best decision I could have made. I fell in love with all things esthetics and dove right in. December of 2016, I drove to Austin to take my state board practical because I refused to go into another year without completing something. It was personal! I started off 2017 getting experience in a spa and I loved every minute of it. Halfway through, I got hired at a popular wax chain and got to experience a more upbeat side of esthetics. Overcoming fears of growth and learning new things, I also took a course for PMU. 2017 was a year of finding myself and stepping out of my comfort zone. I also met my husband at the end of that year 🥰 Since then, we’ve had a world crisis, I’ve opened a business, lost people I loved, got married, and most importantly, I GREW! I grew as person, as an esthetician, as a business owner, and so much more! Each year, I reach new heights and 2024 didn’t disappoint. I became an Esthetics Instructor at The Ogle School for Hair, Skin & Nails! Becoming an adult educator has been amazing so far and I can’t wait to continue my journey, helping Baby Esthies enter this illustrious career that I enjoy so much! I’m currently planning the first Beauty Competition for my school, so watch out for that coming up in November. I’m incessantly adding to my bag of tricks and to think about the next 5-10 years of my life, I know that reaching my goal is near.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I looovvee to eat and explore new things! Wall Street-Almeda would be our first stop. The food and drinks are amazing, the staff is great and the DJ & Hookah on the weekend is a perfect night out. We’d have to go to the museum district, visit the many parks, and scope the Houston Scenery that we love so much. My student just put me onto this Meditation studio, called Current Meditation in River Oaks area. I’m dying to try that place!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My son is my reason to keep going in life! I know that sounds cliche, but if you’re a parent, then you understand how real that statement is. Having child allowed me to see myself and have room for me to grow in all areas of life. I keep going, not only because I want him to have the best, but because he’s watching. I want him to have good examples and role models of what he could be. My husband and I pride ourselves on being everything we want him to be.
