We had the good fortune of connecting with Erik Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erik, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
It’s a struggle at times to find balance between my work life and my personal life, but over the years, I’ve found that taking time for myself is absolutely necessary. Personally my balance was out of whack for a few months, but I made changes to insure that it was restored and as a result, my emotional and physical states improved greatly.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always had an interest in photography, particularly sports action photography and portraiture, but it was in 2003 when I chose to take it seriously. Having said that, I never had an inkling that I would achieve what I have over the years. Was it easy? Not even remotely, there were many hard periods, hard moments and hard times along the way. But perseverance has been my strength. Perhaps my biggest strength is not being content with what I’ve done and have always looked to improve what I produce, which has been my driving force lately. I’m always looking for a new project to challenge me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown Houston for the food and sports, the Galleria area for shopping, and the museum district for the arts. Also, if time and weather permit, a quick trip to Galveston for the sun and beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, my grandfather and my fiancee.
