We had the good fortune of connecting with Harold Lee Cleveland, III and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Harold Lee, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking risks is an integral part of life, and knowing how to manage them is a consequence of taking those risks. Sometimes, it prevents most entrepreneurs from achieving their goals because the outcomes are uncertain until you actually take action. I have always believed in myself, and this belief has been instrumental in my life and career. Leaving California by myself and going to college without family support and figuring things out on my own was a significant risk. Additionally, starting a new business out of pocket was another risk. I knew that by believing in myself and putting God first in whatever I wanted, I could achieve anything. I was confident that I would be okay.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I believe what sets us apart from others is our commitment to mentoring and educating aspiring barbers, helping them enhance their skills and broaden their service offerings. The most rewarding aspect of this role is witnessing their growth and success as professionals.

I reached this point by maintaining self-belief and never losing hope during challenging times. I’ve learned to persevere through adversity. I recognized that opening my business wouldn’t be an easy feat. I pondered how I would manage the staff, as no one has the necessary skills unless they attend courses, which are scarce. Managing people proved to be a difficult task, as I was accustomed to being the sole leader. I had to make significant adjustments and embrace my new role as a business owner.

Key lessons I’ve learned include the importance of controlling my emotions as a leader. Sometimes, it’s crucial to take a step back, breathe, and think clearly. Another lesson is that not everyone will support your business, so it’s okay to start without external support. Focus on the core aspects of your business and let nothing else distract you.

Lastly, I want the world to know that I genuinely care about seeing my people, my inner circle, succeed. If I can help them along the way, I’m here for them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lately, there’s been a surge in new restaurants popping up, making it quite overwhelming to explore. However, I’ve tried a few spots that I highly recommend:

1. **Drakes in Montrose:** A great restaurant with a lively atmosphere.

2. **5015 More Lounge:** Offers a cozy lounge experience with hookah, good music, and a relaxed vibe.

3. **JOEY UPTOWN:** A fantastic restaurant serving delicious food in a stylish setting.

4. **Kamp, Social Junkie, LOv3, and Lounges:** These places offer a variety of entertainment options, including socializing, lounging, and enjoying live music.

5. **Top Golf:** An exciting activity where you can hit golf balls at microchipped targets.

6. **Toca Madre:** A unique restaurant serving creative and delicious Mexican cuisine.

7. **The Thompson Hotel:** A luxurious hotel with a range of amenities, including a spa, wine tasting, and cozy bar lounges.

8. **The Post Oak:** A vibrant hotel with various activities, such as massage, wine tasting, and stylish bar lounges.

These are just a few places to consider for your itinerary, but you can also explore other activities based on your interests.
