We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Cumbie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was always something I thought would be fun following retirement as a teacher. I like to stay active and keep my mind engaged so finding something that I could do to serve others was my goal.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business model allows me to build my own brand around being authentic and relatable. What sets me apart from others is my desire to truly see others win, my background in education and my skills in meeting clients where they are. I’m most excited to listen to new clients and hear what they want to accomplish in their health and help them plug into my supportive community. My process for helping others sets me apart in how I celebrate client wins and redirect when they struggle.
I got to where I am today from my own health and wellness journey and then deciding to pay it forward and help others do the same. It wasn’t easy in the beginning because every new venture requires a learning curve but I overcame challenges by talking with my mentor team. I learned to ask questions and that’s what helped me the most in building confidence to guide others. I wasn’t always a healthy weight so self confidence was my challenge. But learning how to keep the weight off and teaching others how to follow a simple plan has given me more confidence and accountability in staying healthy myself. I like to practice what I preach.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow! What a fun week we would have! My itinerary for the week would include healthy food options, neighbor walks and fun adventures to show her around The Woodlands and Houston. First we would chill by our pool with wine and a charcuterie board from Graze Craze then head to dinner at Hughes Landing at Escalante’s! Then we would walk to Sweet Frozen Bar for some low carb Gelato!
The following couple of days we would head to an Astros game at Minute Maid Park with family and have dinner before the game at Ballpark Cafe. We would spend the night in Houston with family and then head to the Galleria mall area for some fun shopping. The following day would be nails and pedi at Venetian Nail Spa and then a massage at Hand & Stone Massage. Then home to watch a movie and pick up a healthy meal at True Foods Kitchen. The following day I will make a healthy brunch and we will take a long walk and continue to catch up. I will have healthy snacks on hand from HEB and finish out the week with late lunch the following day at BellaGreen followed by a concert at The Woodlands Pavilion. The following morning would be a healthy breakfast casserole and fruit before she heads home.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes! My husband encouraged me to pursue my business in health coaching following my successful 56 lb weight loss and healthy lifestyle. Our adult children were very supportive and were happy to see me serving others in their health goals. My leadership team provided all the tools to help me learn and guide others!
