We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Siefert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I love that our business allows people to try something they might not normally do. When we host our in person or virtual succulent workshops the individuals participating might not be the ones who sought out our services. We are typically booked by Corporate groups for team building and/or client engagement events so planting might not be something these guest have interest in at all – initially. We make the planting experience fun and educational and try to create an uplifting environment for our guests. People ask tons of questions, get really into their finished arrangements and surprise themselves with how much they enjoyed the overall experience – even if plants are not typically their jam.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Jessica worked in the Corporate Events industry for about ten years and then a Business Development role prior to starting Succulent Bar. When she was three months postpartum with her second child, her busybody personality was ready for a challenge. She had this idea of starting Succulent Bar but didn’t know exactly what that looked like and the direction she wanted to head with it. She also was living off of savings at the time with little to no additional income to put towards a start up biz. With $500 bucks in her pocket she was determined to make it work and get this company off the ground. Fast forward four years and Succulent Bar has become far more than we could have ever imagined it being. This company has become what it is because of it’s customers. Can you do this, “why yes we can.” Do you have this, “why yes we do.” It has taken a tremendous amount of drive and hard work to get where we are today with Mount Everest still to climb but we’ve got this. Together with our team and our wonderful customers we will get to the top of that mountain! What does the top of that mountain look like? Good question. Not sure yet to be honest, however I know our customers will lead the way there! Stay tuned, I know I will ;)!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I AM SO LAME. We are so busy working and raising our babies we never leave the house. Phone a friend on this one you guys :)! I am not your go to on this one, sorry!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Succulent Bar started out as a one woman show and then quickly grew into a team of people. I am the drive and creative mind behind the company but my team is what keeps the company moving forward. The production of our product(s) is extremely time consuming and labor intense. Our Event & Production staff work tirelessly day in and day out. This is not a place of work where you get to sit at your desk and go at your own pace. This is a job where you are on your feet all day long, lifting heavy boxes and moving at fast speeds. It’s a job that you push yourself so hard to get caught up but you never really get to a place where you feel like your caught up – if that makes sense :). In addition to our Rock Star staff, my husband Marcus is the business man behind the scenes. He is what made this company an actual business. Without him I wouldn’t know what the heck I was doing and Succulent Bar would have never become the business that it is today. Anyone can turn a hobby into a source of income. Not just anyone can run a business and he has made this just that for us.
