We had the good fortune of connecting with Katherine Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katherine, what do you attribute your success to?

My success stems from my passion to advocate for underrepresented communities. Spero, hope in Latin, is a movement I started back in 2019, where I have dedicated my work to helping close the resource gap seen in communities of color.
This influenced the vision for what later became Spero Psychological Services. Spero Psych complements over a decade of mental health advocacy and my years as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), dually licensed in the state of Texas and in Georgia.

My passion for eradicating mental health stigma propelled me to create Spero Consulting Firm, LLC. My consulting firm takes a deep dive into the training of mental health and health care providers.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

The Spero movement originated to empower individual clients to unlock their potential. Now, Spero Consulting Firm, LLC focuses on building up providers’ multicultural competencies.

Nowadays I look back at how Spero’s outreach initiatives has made a great impact on our communities. I can truly say it is a testament to the quote that I live by, “It always seems impossible until it’s done,” by Nelson Mandela.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

A Saturday afternoon in Houston would start at Dan’s Pizza and Wings. Then we would go to the nearby Clear Lake Park to enjoy the breeze coupled with Texas heat while fishing.

Sunday evening would be a perfect time to take I-45 and at sunset see the “Be someone” mural.

Light bites and views of downtown Houston at Le Meridien rooftop would be a perfect way to wrap up “Summertime in my city.”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be the entrepreneur I am today if it were not for my mom, Lucy Regalado, paving the way. She taught me the importance of having a strong work ethic which gave my drive and ambition direction. When my mom would tell me growing up, “The sky is the limit,” she made sure she set the tone.
Mama Lucy, as my friends call her, is a trailblazer and I am blessed to have her be a part of my journey as an entrepreneur.
