We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Solomon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In the beginning it was about the social shine. About being SEEN instead of being HEARD. Wasn’t even about the money… That’s crazy right but when you’re young you don’t really see the big picture. Guess I’m only speaking for me lol. But as time progress I became more business savvy and more focused on building the SlaughtaHouze brand into something larger and extremely profitable. More important leaving a LEGACY behind for my family which I hope they will continue to run long after I’m gone.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
SlaughtaHouze/Newmann Distributions is the parent company of SlabAllStarz LLC, SlaugthaHouze Recordz and our digital radio stations, KSHZ-SlaugthaHouze Radio and SlabAllStarz Radio. What sets us apart from others is we don’t stop. There are no excuses, we will continue to provide relative, consistent entertainment 24/7. Due to whatever reasons, I’ve seen our local competitors and counterparts sort of fall off time and time again. I run my company the same way the giant corporations operate. Its a constant grind and at times it can become overwhelming but I love what we do and represent.
When I stopped trying to be center stage, and accepted my role of “chief executive officer” things became clear.
My role is to sign the checks, We have our share of challenges but a brand is a reflection of it’s leader. For me everyday is
GAME 7 so I handle pressure accordingly. I give no excuses therefore SlaugthaHouze gives no excuses. We fulfill our
obligations in a timely manner and continue to build meaningful partnerships and relationships.
I surround myself with individuals who have the same desires as me. The same passion and hunger. I understand life happens and the individual might have to handle their business BUT when they are associated with SlaughtaHouze, they have to be prepared to run with us. We support and value our partners and associates. We do not tolerate laziness and disrespect in any form. Many have pass through these doors and left. The Houze still stands.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I’m entertaining an artist or having a meeting of a potential partner/client, I love to treat them to a nice brunch at BRELLAS here in Houston ( 2811 Washington Avenue )
If brunch isn’t on the itinerary then dinner at Pappadeaux 0r Raising Steaks.
then rsvp a nice section at RISE or SPIRES to show my guest a great time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wonderful question…. All glory goes to God for imprinting the spark/drive/desire and hustle in me to aggressively pursue my goals. Definitely want to give credit to all our predecessors in the Houston Hip Hop culture. The legendary groups like Screwed Up Click, DJ Screw, SwishaHouse, Rap-A-Lot, J Prince and more who inspired me to follow their blueprint for success. I have to give credit to my family and friends who thought ( probably still think ) I shouldn’t be “doing this” Their doubt FUELS me to continue to grow and succeed. Shoutout to our partners, recording artists and active followers who support what we present to them.
