We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
When you wake up every morning doing what you love instead of something you need to do I find that being successful. When you work hard and put everything into what you love that makes it all worth it. It is a amazing feeling getting to spend your day doing what you love and making a career out of it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I was doing makeup for friends and events when a high school friend reached out to me and said he loved my work and I should look into doing makeup in the film industry. I was in SC, so I started looking up productions and makeup artists in Atlanta. I did a lot of research and started joining Facebook groups and introduced myself in the groups. I kept working social media daily and started getting film jobs in SC, NC, and Georgia. Things kept growing from there and I came to Houston in 2018 and brought what I learned here. I have been blessed by working with incredibly talented people in this industry. I have worked on movies with Deon Richmond and Tisha Campbell, which was amazing.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the restaurants here, there are so many great ones. Pappa’s Burgers and Pappadeaux are definitely my favorites. I also love going to the Galleria mall there is definitely something there for everyone and you could spend the whole day there.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Reel McCoy and Tony Glaser are amazing photographers. They work on weddings, family portraits, modeling pictures and do video work as well. I work with them on a lot of projects.
