We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Meche and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, what’s your definition for success?
Defining success is all relative and subjective. Success will look different from one person to another. For me, success is doing what you love and making your clients happy. It’s easy to compare yourself to other people within your industry through social media and to get caught up in the glamour of number of followers and model calls. However, we have to remember why we started doing what we love in the first place. I enjoy getting to know and work with my clients and deliver photos that they will be able to hold on to for years to come and relive those special moments.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My full-time career is actually in interior design so I’ve always chosen the creative path. Once I had people come to me and ask if I could take photos because they liked my personal photo portfolio, I knew I needed to pursue my other passion part-time. I had no past experience of professional photography other than knowing Photoshop and basic studies of lighting from my interior design career. I have taught myself along the way and am continuing to learn every time I pick up the camera. After each session, there is always something new I learn and take away.
If you are potentially looking for me to be your photographer, I will want to get to know you and what your story and vision is. Then, we can start envisioning the location of your future photoshoot. Most of my photography is captured outdoors with natural light because sunlight is the best light. I want you to look your best self and have a fun experience! My photos will represent who you are. My clients are my inspiration, so no photoshoot is ever the same.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has so many exciting places to see! I would take them to the Museum District and The Menil Collection to get a dose of the art in the city.

To enjoy the outdoors, we would go to Eastern Glades at Memorial Park, Buffalo Bayou and Discovery Green.

For some shopping and grabbing a bite to eat and drinks: City Center and the Heights.

For more delicious food and drinks: Postino, La Fisheria (best ceviche in town!), Eunice and Calle Onze.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t have started my photography brand if it weren’t for my husband and best friend. They both saw my passion and told me I had the eye and creativity for it. My best friend was my first client whereas my husband is a big technology buff and is always looking for ways to improve my product and brand.
