We had the good fortune of connecting with Marta Renilla Delgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marta, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I am one of those few lucky ones that love what they do for a living. I would ride Dressage (the equestrian discipline that I practice) even if it wasn´t already part of my job! I work very hard, don´t take it wrong, but I love it so much that I don´t mind the long hours, riding in the cold or heat. At the same time, I feel grateful to being able to develop my work and passion together with my family. I´ve been lucky enough to meet another Dressage lover in my husband, so we can easily balance work and personal time, because we both love competing and being among horses all day, every day! He was already a rider when we met, but he soon moved to Dressage and we both enjoy riding and developing horses together in our free time! Our sons are only 7 years old but both show an amazing disposition for the sport and ride better than many adults! I was riding alone 10 years ago. Now I ride with my husband and kids while I also do my job!
What should our readers know about your business?
We are unique in what we do. The search for the perfect dressage horse (or one of any discipline) can be long and frustrating . I help each rider to make their horse shopping experience a real pleasure! Our showcase of Dressage horses are all trained at Woodlands Equestrian Club, here in Houston, so buyers just need to do one stop in order to see a wide variety of horses! It is that easy! They do not need to worry about importing from Europe since we have already done it for them. My family and I are committed to our clients and advise for the best sports horse for their specific needs… Since 2010, we specialize in Importing high-quality sports horses from the best breeders in Europe, Mexico & USA… so buyers don’t have to. Once the selected horses arrive in Houston, I train them and move them up in the levels… like a university of horses! so by the time the client visits us, they can choose among a great variety of wonderful Dressage horses of different breeds, ages, colors and sizes!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love downtown restaurants and Westheimer area. I don´t visit as often as I would like because my life is with horses and my family, here in The Woodlands. But I´d definitely take my best friend to the Gospel Bruch in House of Blues, I think it´s so unique and fun. And also to Hermann park for a walk if the weather permits. I have great memories having picnics on the grass in front of on the Miller Outdoor Theater. Here in The Woodlands. I would take her to a restaurant in Market Street to eat a good Texas stake!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom Isabel Delgado. She was a horse passionate and we both shared her first horse together. If she hadn´t taken me to ride as a little girl, I would probably never had discovered my passion for horses and Dressage. Thank you mamá!
