We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvonne Madueke Akunyili and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yvonne, what do you attribute your success to?
Success begins internally and radiates outwards and, in some instances, the external manifestation is often financial increase and if you’re one of the lucky few, you will make a difference with that attained privilege.

I consider success as being able to find fulfillment in what I do, to be an independent brand with the freedom to think and act outside the box. To be considered a source of strength to others and my community. To have a network of likeminded individuals as that is my true net worth and ultimately receiving high regards from clients and staff members.

attribute my success in building a successful company in the Event Industry to my belief in my business, and stronger still, my belief in myself. This belief fuels my Persistence and commitment to the long game. It is important to understand that “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. There will be ebbs and flows in growing a successful business/brand but never ever give up and be relentless in achieving the dreams. I am encouraged to stay motivated and pull strength from self and when that is not enough, I pull strength from the solid network I’m surrounded by and most importantly from God.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Avalon Event Rentals is a Tent & Event Rental Company. We pride ourselves in providing premium services to its customers. We supply our clients with high-quality Tent Rentals, Wedding Rentals, Party Rentals coupled with free consultations. We are constantly updating our inventory to carry the latest trends so that your parties can stand out from the rest. We are fully staffed with knowledgeable experts who can bring your vision of your party to life. We are most proud of being able to issue renderings to customers, this helps our customers visualize the layout of their event. We are able to fully execute these drawings to real-life productions. We operate from our Houston warehouse and can transport our products using our sturdy fleet of trucks within Houston and beyond. We set ourselves apart from other vendors by paying close attention to customers’ needs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a homebody but if my best friend were to come into town and I had to entertain them, I would definitely take them to 3tees Shawarma, they have the best Afro-Mediterranean café menu. I would order the ‘Spicy Chicken Shawarma’. Or for fine dining, we would go all the way to The Woodlands to eat at Tris / Cureight by Chef Austin Simmons and end the day with a good movie.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without the help and love of my Husband, Children and Mother, I won’t have been able to make the strides I’ve made now. They have been a rock in ways unimaginable. I have had the full support of organizations like MunaLuchi Bride & The Coterie, NACE, ARA, Brides of Houston and of course Voyage Houston. They have provided the tools and network space to grow and thrive. And most of all, I dedicate this shout out to the Avalon Event Rentals Team.
