We had the good fortune of connecting with Omozee Agbe-rankhe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Omozee, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts. Yes I’m a long way from home!! I’ve always had a knack for makeup, taking it all the way back to 8th grade, I remember the first eyeshadow palette my mother got me. It was a small clear square full of neutral browns, I was obsessed!!! Fast forward just a few years to high school. I remember putting glitter on my cheeks one day and someone saying to me why do you have a shimmer on your face… this was circa 2008/2009 before highlighting was popular and before people in my city used it. Makeup has always been a love of mine, so I decided to sharpen my skills and put myself out there. I am a friendly person but I also do not like to bring attention to myself, so doing something like makeup in such a huge city like Houston is really me stepping out of my comfort zone, i love making people feel more confident and excited for whatever occasion they may be celebrating. It truly warms my heart having this platform to showcase my talents and build a versatile clientele.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I currently work in the BioPharma industry as a Quality Assurance consultant. When I first started my career in 2017 fresh out of college with my Biology degree I was working as a Manufacturing associate working 12 hour shifts rotation between 7pm-7am or 7am-7pm it was a struggle. I worked my way up to the place I am now while also trying to complete a master degree, it has not been easy but come December 2023 this woman can say she has her MPH and that’s what i continue to push for. There have been many setbacks and challenges during my career, I mean I even moved here to Houston to get the job title (manufacturing supervisor) I wanted since there wasn’t much diversity/ inclusivity in Massachusetts. With my new role and program God has set me up for success, my job is less stressful and I love what I do, and gives me more time to focus on my school work. I’ve been averaging A- in almost every class since I switched jobs early 2022. It may sound cliche but it’s true, for every setback there’s a major comeback and even if I’m not exactly where I want to be right now I’m exactly where God needs/ wants me to be and I know great things are coming, Especially with entering the beauty industry at this point in my life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
