We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulina Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paulina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Dealing with imposter syndrome. It is unbelievable how we can be our own worst enemy. It is the fact of feeling that you are not good enough or you are going to be a failure. Switching that mindset takes nights
of non-rest sleep (anxiety, is that you?), frustration cries, mood swings and negative thoughts about
getting stuck in the same routine without doing what makes you happy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting to where I am right now, was quite a challenge. When I dropped out from University after 3.5 years, I moved from my hometown (Guadalajara, Mexico) to
New York for a year to get certified as a make-up artist. But it wasn’t as easy it sounds. I had to paid
everything by myself (including the move, certification and living costs) so I worked 12 hours per day
during the week and a couple hours on the weekend in order to earn enough money to make a living and
my dreams come true. On top of that, I had to deal with being homesick as I was missing my family and
friends.
Ultimately, I was able to overcome these challenges and the risks paid off with the best reward I could
get, growing up as a professional and person. I absolutely do not regret taking this risk as it gave me the
opportunity to do what I love most.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Food: Tejas BBQ, Ragin’ Cajun, Hando, Tris, Crawfish & Noodles Outdoor: Lake Conroe, Kayak in The Woodlands Waterway,
Drinks: Bernhardt Winery, EADO.
Night out: Whiskey River , DJ at Stereo Live
Shopping: Houston Premium Outlets, Galleria Mall, The Woodlands Mall, Skincare at Chinatown

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Although I often times doubt a lot of myself, my husband never does. He tirelessly encourages and reminds me how succesful and taletend I am. He is my best friend and greatest support. I can not be thankful enough for sharing my life with someone like him.
Also, my mom has also played an important role, she NEVER judged me or made me felt guilty when I decided to drop out of University to pursue my dream of being a makeup artist, she always supported me on my decision and kept mentioning how successful I will be.
