We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandy “The Bag Lady” Priska and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandy “The Bag Lady”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process of starting a second business was a 5 letter word for me, C-O-V-I-D! My husband and I are not new to being business owners. We are proud owners of a Montessori Preschool, Klein-Spring Montessori School, which has been serving our community since 1984. But March of 2020, our World Changed! COVID hit our business hard and that scared me. All of our eggs were in one basket and this was my opportunity to try something new!

My friend and I had started a little side business selling Home Decor imported from Mexico mid 2019. Later that year, I was introduced to the Handwoven Handbags and fell instantly in love with them and decided to strictly focus on the Handbags. Mandy’s Handwoven Handbags / Mandy’s Imports was born!

Each handbag is as unique as the artisan that makes them! You can feel the time, love and energy put into each handbag. The thought process and the beauty that these artisans have is a rare find here in the US but is alive and well in Mexico. Being a Mexican American (Texan Mexican American), I am proud of my roots and Mexican art has always brought me such joy so I figured if I felt this way, other people must too!!!

With the help of my family and friends my journey began! Markets, Facebook LIVES, Networking, Private Shows, you name it, I’ve tried it and have enjoyed every minute of it!

One thing that is certain, is that our Handwoven Handbags are spreading JOY to every person that comes into contact with one!!!

Each handbag is handwoven using recycled PVC!!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This is a great question!

I truly LOVE people. I love to know how people think, how they move, how they live, they are just interesting to me! It’s so funny because I have always been thought of as a “great salesperson” but I have never liked that term because I don’t feel that I “sell” things. My interpretation is that I “SHARE” things. If I love a product, a place, an organization, I’m going to tell you about and not just tell you about it, but Educate you about it and tell you with PASSION, therefore people think that I am “selling” them something and truly I am just sharing information.

I have PASSION. Everything I do in life is passion driven for me. This can be a good thing and a bad thing for me. Passionate about my Product=Great thing, Not passionate about working out=Not good thing for me! Hahaha!

I love to help people and spread happiness. The handbags that I sell, combine those 2 passions for me! Helping the Artisans of Mexico and spreading joy to the people who buy them!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
OH So FUNNNN!!! Let’s get this party started! Remember I’m in my 50″s so clubbing is not my thing!

Houston in 7 days- MUST do’s! First of all, their visit would be in March! Weather is still a little cool, we can hang outdoors and celebrate my BIRTHDAY and the Houston Rodeo!
I don’t like to plan day by day because if the weather doesn’t agree we want to have the flexibility to change our plans.
Our Must Do List:
Places to go:
Houston Rodeo
Live Music at the RUSTIC
Museum of their choice or Gardens
The Flea Market on Airline, I love the feel of my culture. Beautiful things to see, eat and buy!
Lucky Land- The Forbidden Gardens on Airline
Galveston for a day of ocean sounds and salty breeze
A day of shopping!
Relax at home & lay by the pool

Restaurants to try:
Truth Bar B Q or Cork Screw- Texas Bar B Q
Mezban- Pakistan/ Indian cuisine
Rakuu for Sushi
Houston’s for Spinach Dip
Tex Mex- so many to choose from!!

Can’t wait for this visit! Who will it be? Friends? Friends?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh my, that is a loaded question!!! There are 3 groups of people that have helped me along my journey. My Family- My husband & my children for always supporting my crazy impulsive ideas! My sisters for being my “Rocks” during my journey, they are always by my side!!!

My Friends especially Debbie Morgan who is always there for me to bounce ideas off of, give me advice and be by my side doing the crazy stuff that nobody else would do to make this business happen!!!

My “Girl” Tribe- ABWA (American Business Women’s Association) more specific the HAPEN Ladies (Houston Area) and CYFEN ( Cypress Area). It’s amazing to be surrounded by supportive women who are there to offer advice, support your business and just listen and lend a helping hand!

The last person is ME! For taking the chance on me. For understanding my faults and my weaknesses and learning not to beat myself up! Taking it one day at a time!
