We had the good fortune of connecting with Skyla Lampkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Skyla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process for starting my own business was I’d worked as an Accountant for 9years at a company and on a Monday morning we had a meeting and we were all notified that the corporate office would be closing and relocating so I realized at that moment that I had to do something, I felt that I had devoted so many years to supporting someone else’s dream that it was time to put my skills and experience to work for myself and my family. I took that situation and used it as fuel to start my own Accounting/Bookkeeping Firm.
What should our readers know about your business?
JKB Bookkeeping Services LLC is a full charge firm that assist its clients with maintaining accurate and compliant financial records, it can become easy to get distracted with running their businesses so as we like to say “you handle your business, we’ll handle your books”. We assist with Financial planning, payroll, financial reports, cloud accounting software training, tax preparation, all of the things that creates a solid foundation for a business we are there to help. I’m most excited about finally taking the leap to get JKB up and started showing that you can take any situation and make something great come from it. I got to this point due to the unforeseen circumstances of a company relocation, I learned that you can never get so comfortable that you’re not able to adjust to change I for one have had to do this throughout my life by relocating from Chicago to Missouri with at that time small children so I am a women who can adapt to change.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend came to Missouri I’d start with an hour long Massage and facials at Massage Envy after that Lunch at Prime 55 Restaurant then a trip to the mall for some shopping and after that stop by Coopers Hawk to get a nice bottle of wine to have while we chat on the deck. The most fun things for me are trying new restaurants, going to listen to live music is always a blast. The most interesting would be visiting St. Louis Science Center there are always really cool exhibits there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have the most supportive family, My mom and three brothers have not only cheered me on and encouraged me to keep going in my business endeavors but throughout my life I can’t thank them enough for the love and support. I also couldn’t have started this without my children they are my greatest motivation and also the namesake of my business JKB Bookkeeping Services LLC (Jakarie, Keelan and Brooklynn).
