We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Ogundare and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was a simple question… why not?
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to consider myself an artist. From spoken word to interior design, I create.
Serenity Parties was launched in 2021 after I planned the greatest event of all time, my wedding. The ability I had to handle so much pressure with grace and beauty could only be defined as talent. A talent that my family and friends encouraged me to share. And that’s exactly what I planned to do until I gave up.
I never gave up on my talent and desire to serve, but I gave up on the process. I believed everyone around me should understand my abilities and pay top dollar. I should be booked year-round with 100k followers on Instagram. I will have no choice but to leave a job that truly needs me.
It sounds funny now, looking back on how I initially believed my company to run. Without really asking myself, what do I truly desire from this great idea? I had to discover my wants. I had to learn that success looks different for everyone.
Fast forward to today, I continue to run Serenity Parties part-time. I have set my prices, based on competitive rates that I value. I currently have 603 amazing followers on Instagram. I am blessed to have a business where I have the ability to do something else that I love at the pace I desire.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My House! I’m a certified homebody!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My amazing & supportive husband, Charles Ogundare
