We had the good fortune of connecting with Yolanda Stokes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yolanda, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my business was to help people by showing them how to budget and become more financially stable. I wanted to show others how to budget and improve their financial statuses one step at a time. I felt it was important to assist with teaching people how to find the budget method that worked the best for them. During that process, I was able to assist people in their entrepreneurial endeavors by registering their businesses, preparing monthly accounting records and assisting with financial literacy for businesses and personal needs.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career as an auditor has provided professional experience in a variety of areas such as compliance (tax and assurance areas). During the time as an auditor, I was blessed to develop lasting relationships which ultimately allowed me to identify areas that I was passionate about. While auditing companies (large and small), I was afforded the opportunity to teach businesses proper reporting for internal controls and advise of proper reporting and budgeting techniques.

Even though I have had a wonderful career, there have been challenges over the years. In a male dominated industry, I have had to prove that I deserved a seat at the table and held technical knowledge as well as passion for helping others. I most recently was licensed as an insurance agent to offer life insurance. This allows me to reach more families become financially secure and learn wealth building strategies.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friends were to visit my area, Charlotte, NC, for a week, I would take them to several places to experience the culture here. Their trip would include and experience at a candlelight concert at The Barrel Room at Triple C Brewing in Charlotte, which is such a beautiful experience for the music lover. I would make sure they had a relaxing day by allowing them time to unwind at Nature’s Spa and Wellness followed by a glam make-up session before dinner and a movie at Regal Cinebarre Arboretum. We would enjoy exhibits and art collections at The Mint Museum. We would create new and fun memories by having a photoshoot after we had a great time at Northlake Mall in Charlotte. Since they love seafood, I would make sure they ate at Juicy Crab and Bonefish Grill. We would enjoy Carowinds, a theme park with water rides and of course, Nascar. There’s so much to do in Charlotte that a week wouldn’t be enough time to show them everything, but I would do my best.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was blessed to have a group of very close friends (which are seriously like sisters) to encourage, pray for and with me, provide their opinions, thoughts and help me think through ideas and issues. I have my Spiritual leaders to thank as well for giving encouraging words and lend a helping hand by allowing me to share with the congregation how to budget and provide financial literacy workshops.
