We had the good fortune of connecting with Hender Bastidas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hender, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The idea of “Proud Roofing & Solar” came to me one day when I was in a beautiful lake very close to Houston, one of those places that make you think too much and wish they were always there for you and we don’t damage them with time, as we damage everything and that thought led me to think about what I was doing to contribute to the planet and the damage that we humans cause. That thought went very deep in me and I was overwhelmed and felt that I had to start doing something that could give at least a grain of sand to help the planet, at that time I was looking for ideas for my own business, that’s when that little spark went off, and it occurred to me to start in the industry of solar panels and roofs in an ecological way and that we can be responsible for all the waste and materials that we can recycle to leave a better world for our children, that’s when I realized that I wanted a self-sustainable world where people have more awareness of the impact and value that energy has in our day to day life and also the value of a strong home and what better way to make a strong home than having a strong and reliable roof?

What should our readers know about your business?
Proud Roofing & Solar is a very valuable project for me because it is a company where working doesn’t feel like just working, it feels like helping people of all races and ages, there is no more special feeling than helping a deserving person, when we replace a roof for example and that client’s house looks like new after a storm or tornado you can see in the face of that homeowner and family leader satisfaction and relief, when we have a solar panel installation we can feel a huge satisfaction for contributing to the planet, to the next generations and for creating a new family energy independence and making them owners of their own renewable energy system. I think what makes the difference for us is that we put the planet, our customers and our employees first. Profit becomes a consequence of hard work with a completely pure and honest purpose, I created this company in my early 20’s and we can’t get out of our heads the idea of innovating the industry putting the economic part aside and prioritize our mission which is to do our bit for the planet. We are trying to create a marketing system where all homeowners can see the enormous personal and external benefits of renewable energy and the importance of a strong roof for your house. We are the generation of the future.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you ask me for a place to eat in Houston I would say burger joint and if we talk about having a drink without a doubt Clarkwood Houston, if you want to see the imposing but beautiful downtown I would recommend Houston Post Rooftop, if you want a walk at night in a fancy and beautiful place I would take you to City Center and if you want fun and meet at the same time I would recommend renting scooters in downtown at night and go around it. Houston is a beutiful places with 1000 activities to do.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is a special person who died a few years ago and was undoubtedly one of the people who had the greatest impact on my life my great grandmother who was the person who raised me in Venezuela for many years and after she passed away I only feel that she guides me in every step I take no matter how small or big and not least the support of my wife, my daughter and my family.
