We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara McGuire and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barbara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was wanting to create a useful and effective platform for people who live life to the fullest but do not have the time to plan a VIP trip or event.

In the past, I often volunteered to organize group trips with my friends because I viewed coordinating as a fun hobby and my friends claimed they did not have the time. For our trips, I would plan a detailed itinerary that would list day by day activities and preplanned reservations. I would plan from private scuba diving lessons to spa day treatments and rooftop dinners with escorted transportation.

After a few organized trips, I realized that there is actually a demand for travel coordinators. I hired a website designer, my brother, Bobby McGuire and launched my website in July 2020. Of course, launching a traveling website during the start of a pandemic was not ideal but that influenced me to expand my services.

I wanted to extend the luxurious experience of traveling to private events. Tips To Traveling is not limited to coordinating trips but also curating parties, sharing honest restaurant reviews, hotel recommendations, and videos of daring activities.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Tips to Traveling is a traveling and event service that guides travelers in organizing their next memorable travel experience. I handle every detail to save my clients time and stress. My services include itinerary planning that extend to reserving and booking, on my clients behalf, for a luxurious experience. Not only can I plan a clients travel but also a private, special occasion. I can ease anyone’s stress from planning birthday dinners, anniversary dates, a girls night, to coordinating an extravagant wedding.

Offering services to coordinate any memorable trip or special occasion has taught me that every client is different, no matter the number of birthdays I am planning in one week. What might work for one client, at one event, might not work for another. I am learning to have multiple resources available for any occasion.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was to visit the area, which she has, and I wanted to show her the best time, I would plan for good food, random activities, and club appearances. As for a week long trip, my best friend and I would start the week off at Postino Wine Cafe on Monday night, where they offer a bottle of wine and bruschetta for only $25.

On Tuesdays, there are numerous places to go for tacos but I would take my best friend to Bovine and Barley for their $3 birria tacos during their 3 to 7pm happy hour. Later that night, I would take us to taco night hosted at Twenty24. My friend, Kizzy Diamond, of Kizzy Diamond Entertainment, is responsible for hosting so she always shows me a good time.

I discovered this extended happy hour across the street from where I live, in the Galleria area. Only on Wednesdays, the Mexican restaurant La Tapatia, has a happy hour from morning to night, 11am to 11pm. The flavored margaritas start at $4.

I always wanted to try axe throwing, and I found a local venue, The Backyard Axe Throwing, that offers the activity for groups or singles. There is also a bar, but I am not sure how safe that will be.

Friday night would be the start of our club appearances for the weekend. Again, my friend Kizzy Diamond, hosts at the Domain on Friday nights. Low priced sections are available to anyone celebrating a birthday so the lounge is packed on Friday nights. Most recently, 50 Cent visited the Domain and we had a memorable experience.

Weekends are for brunching so I would introduce my best friend to the Black owned brunch spot, Upper Kirby Bistro for one morning and A’Bouzy the next morning,

In my opinion, the most, exciting people, places or things to check out are near the Galleria area, There are countless restaurants, clubs, and hookah lounges that line the streets of Richmond and Westheimer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If you ask my mom to describe me, she will say, “She never sits down.” I have never been content with staying in one place or doing one thing. The love for meeting new people and exploring new areas or ideas was developed as a child through annual family vacations. When I was in the third grade, my family and I traveled to New York. After making it through the airport security, my dad told me, a nine year old, to direct the family to our gate. I was taught at a young age how to be a leader. My dad is also a very organized person. I get the idea of planning out itineraries from him.

Any other motivation comes from my childhood friends who pushed me to start charging my worth, shared my website on social media and refer clients to my services.
