We had the good fortune of connecting with Chad & Cady Beck and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chad & Cady, what is the most important factor behind your success?
It would have to be a combination of our branding and our fanatical dedication to quality and customer satisfaction. With every single product made in-house from scratch, we can make sure the quality is on point.
The branding we currently have is actually the second iteration as we just weren’t happy with our first attempt. I guess we made the right decision with our second attempt as we have received a lot of compliments from branding/marketing professionals.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What most people are surprised by is that we created all of our products, so I guess in a world of “white label” products it’s something significant that sets us apart. Also we really try to take an outside the box approach. We don’t like following the crowd and always look for solutions that are original.
The perfect example is the Bottomless Beard Mask™️. When masks were a must last year, we saw what was happening to beards with the standard masks (beard dent!) and had to do something about it. The beard mask caught on like wildfire. We went from not being found on Google to sending out dozens of masks a week.
We’re continuing down this path and have several products in development you won’t find anywhere else in the beard world.
By far the most important factor though is when we decided to officially launch Beck & Co. that we hoped and prayed that if God blessed it to succeed, we’d be able to use it to support local ministry and churches. I don’t think it was a coincidence that 4 months after we decided to launch the business, I lost my Oil & Gas job. It’s been quite a journey over the last 16 months but we wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First and foremost, I’d show them downtown Tomball & The Tomball Farmers Market. Just in Tomball alone there are more amazing food options than you could possibly cover in a week! Fire Ant Brewery, Every-Bellies & Tejas are a few of our faves but our most recent experience was at Bonfire Grill and it did not disappoint! On the other end of the spectrum, Akashi is the best sushi we’ve had in Houston! Make sure you try Tony’s Coconut Mule!! Of course everyone knows the museums in Houston are world class; there are literally too many to mention.
We love taking our kids and visitors to the Houston Zoo, it never seems to get old! Also Pleasure Pier in Galveston is a family favorite that we love taking our out-of-towners to. They can dip their toes in the ocean not to mention the plentiful seafood!
The downtown aquarium is a fun experience, and great for the littles! Make sure you eat at The Aquarium Restaurant while you’re there, you will be pleasantly surprised!
It feels like I could go on forever, Houston and the surrounding cities are an ever changing landscape that never gets old!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We really need to highlight the importance of the Tomball Farmers Market. I began volunteering at TFM in April 2020 and loved the experience! We started out as a fill-in vendor in July 2020; total game changer!
Being able to connect with our customers 1 on 1 is something you just don’t get with pure e-commerce sales. Their feedback has been a huge help, especially with new product development.
Talking beards on Saturday mornings is something we look forward to and love doing together.
