We had the good fortune of connecting with Josalyn Ironette-Dione Holiday and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josalyn Ironette-Dione, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
I am currently reading Be the Message Taking your Faith Beyond Words to a Life of Action by Kerry and Chris Shook. It may seem strange, but I am not a person that reads often. When I do find a book that grabs my attention from the beginning I can get hooked in wanting to read til the end. I received this book from my late Uncle Fred a while back, but I never looked inside to see what it was about. With everything going on in the world I had to find things to occupy my time and distract me from some of the craziness people are saying and doing. I decided to look through the stack of books that I received from both of my uncles, who were also my pastors at some point. The title of the book immediately grabbed my attention and the table of contents gave me a strong desire to begin reading. I have not finished reading it yet, but I am so excited about the things I have read thus far. My life is a message and the way I live daily is a message in itself. People may not hear what you say, but they definitely see you what you are doing. My favorite chapter in the book is “From Mess to Message.” No matter what mess you are in today, it could eventually become a message for others in the future. I strive to live by example everyday, but this book has given me that extra push I need to keep going and doing what I do best. #BeTheMessage #IAmTheMessage
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a children’s author and I never imagined in a million years writing a book would take me this far. I never considered it a business, but instead a life style. I love to write and the stories I write are not my own, but a gift from God. This is something I would never be able to do on my own. I am most excited about the opportunities that have come my way, whether planned or unexpected. I never thought writing a simple children’s book in 15 minutes would lead to writing other books, meeting people from all over the world, completing interviews, and actually being able to google myself. This is a dream come true and I know there is more in store. I have learned how to be patient and wait on God’s timing, because his timing is the perfect time. I don’t rush into things. I just sit back and patiently wait. I don’t think I have had many challenges in this area, because my expectations are small and whatever God makes of it I am pleased. I want the world to know I am a country girl from a small Texas town and God took something great and made it even greater!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Good friends are hard to find, but I am a person that has learned to enjoy the company of those I love to talk to. Sitting in the living room laughing, talking, and reminiscing would be the perfect hangout for me but since you are asking about spots in the city I would take them to Itz or Main event. Even though I am getting a little older I still enjoy playing games and having fun. I would take him/her to one of my favorite restaurants, Carrabba’s or Monument Inn. Grabbing dessert from Nothing bundt cakes is a great way to end a great day. When hanging with great friends you don’t need an itinerary. You get in the car and where ever the car takes you, that’s where you go. It’s all about creating memories and enjoying life!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to those that encourage, push, and continue to build me up. I really appreciate my daughter, my family, my Lighthouse church family, and my friends near and far. Shoutout to my late Uncle Fred C. Holliday for leaving a book I didn’t know I needed to read until now. With God on my side all things are possible! I love you all!!!
