We had the good fortune of connecting with Latecia Rockwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Latecia, what makes you happy? Why?
Interacting with people brings me the most happiness. I believe I was created to serve people in many ways. So, whether it is providing entertainment through writing a blog post or assisting my community with their health through my career as a nurse, I believe this is what allows me to feel the most fulfilled and happy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Professionally I have been a Registered Nurse for the last five years and in a way I believe this has contributed to my identity as a creative. Initially I was only interested in using my profession to aid people in feeling better but when I became the one in need of assistance due a tragic event in my own life I leaned more on my creative side for an outlet. I am most proud of my career as a nurse which not only funded my platform but also lead me to people who helped birth my passion to create. The Journey to becoming a creative was not easy and I actually still struggle with staying motivated and inspired as a creative. I’ve learned through experience that it is important to keep content flowing and keep your audience entertained or else you will loose them. I want the world to know that I’m just a woman who refuses to neglect the purpose within me. I don’t believe I was created to simply live life for myself. I was created at a specific time and with a specific purpose for a specific generation. We all were.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A dope trip lead by yours truly would consist of lots of eating, biking and great downtown scenery. Some of my newfound favorite places in H-Town are Buffalo Bayou Park which has an amazing view of Downtown Houston. In the past year Ive visited several times for nighttime walks, and afternoon bike rides with friends. Another one of my favorite places is Graffiti Park also near downtown. I love to see expression of art in any form and there are several blocks filled with some of the dopest graffiti I have ever seen. Lastly the trip wouldn’t be complete without eating at Eddie V’ s Prime Seafood which offers live Jazz and some of the best seafood dishes in Houston.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout and story to my family. My family has contributed to my story in so many ways and deserves lots of credit and recognition. The dynamics of my family are unique just like anyone else’s. My immediate family consist of My mom and bonus dad, my dad and bonus mom, I also have and older sister and two brothers, a brother and sister-in-love, nephews and a niece. Each of these people have not only encouraged me but prayed and fasted for me in some of my most difficult times. We remain united through our faith and I am beyond blessed to have these amazing people in my life. My story would not be so happy without them.
