We had the good fortune of connecting with Renae Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renae, how does your business help the community?
At OnPurpose Enrichment, Inc. (OnPurpose), our mission is to eliminate barriers to youth in need by enriching their education, careers, and lives. As a social enterprise we pay our youth to learn. Education is tuition-free and scheduled during their work experiences through Information Technology (IT) Apprenticeships. The goal is to move individuals who may have not had the opportunity for a high-school diploma or post-secondary education into high-demand and high-growth IT careers.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The OnPurpose model is unique. Our organization educates youth and young adults in a career and pays them to learn while incorporating resiliency coaching. Unlike most workforce education programs, our students will get the opportunity to experience real-work challenges and have access to a resiliency coach to help them get through those challenges. It’s a win-win situation for both the student and their future long-term employers.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Houston because there are so many different experiences you can have! If my best friend was visiting the area I would take her to the Art Car museum to see some of the interesting and hand made cars. We would also check out Discovery Green to see what out door fun there is to get into. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to God. There are so many obstacles that I have had to face in life. I know that God has used these obstacles to help shape my ministry.
