We had the good fortune of connecting with Valeria Urdaneta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valeria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I enjoy telling the story of how everything started, I think it’s different, fun, and a way to inspire and teach others that your business can start from your side hustle!
I got my first social media client in October 2020 thanks to my babysitting and dog sitting gig!
I overheard them talk about their business and my last internship was canceled thanks to COVID-19, so I had nothing to lose. I asked the mom if I could run their social media, and she said yes!
I started 2021 as a freelancer with 2 social media clients, and ended the year with 10 new clients, a business, and a great team by my side!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Valesco Digital is a Houston Digital Marketing agency that offers catered services in most areas of Digital Marketing! But social media is our bread and butter!
The first thing that people ask me about Valesco is the meaning behind the name, it took me weeks to decide on it. The only thing I knew is that I wanted it to include my name in some way or another, but not like in an obvious way.
As a Latina, I wanted to include my roots as well, so I started researching words that started with “Vale” and that’s how I found the word Valesco, a Latin verb that translates to strength and growth.
I found it impactful, because that is my goal with businesses, to help them grow strong in the digital world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Funny thing…I’m usually the go-to person to ask for new restaurants or cool experiences in Houston, and even BETTER my best friend IS visiting Houston, from Venezuela! Here’s what I would do:
-First, COFFEE: I would visit The Coffee House At West End @TheCoffeeHouseHTX for coffee with a view
-Then we would visit the new coolest spot: POST @PostHTX to get some downtown pics on their rooftop and food along the way
-If we want to try other restaurants I would go to: @Highline.Park cool new restaurant at the MKT
-Girls night out at @nomad_houston is such a cool new spot
-Group night out or Sunday Fundays at @Bauhaus_Houston
-And because we need to keep everything “balanced” we would go for a run or bike at the buffalo bayou!
I love Houston because there are so many things to do and so many new places to try!!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Woaaah, this is actually pretty hard. I know I’m just one person but the list of everyone that helped me get to where I am right now is huge. There are so many people who have supported, encouraged, and inspired me. All worth a mention. The more I reflect on how I got to where I am, the more grateful I feel.
Well first, I want to give a shoutout to my family, and when I say family I mean my parents, my boyfriend, his parents, and my close friends, they have been my support system since before I went to college.
I also want to give a shoutout to the Digital Media program at the University of Houston, for making me feel like I have found my calling as soon as I glanced over their program, they helped me become a well-rounded individual in the digital world, making me a valuable asset for any company, which at the end has helped me manage my own baby. Valesco!
SHOUT OUT TO MY TEAM! Oh my god, I love them all. Being part of a startup is NOT easy, I know they know that but I feel so lucky to have found people that believe in my vision, that have so much patience, and that basically, have allowed me to develop my leadership skills with them! I was able to expand thanks to their help, and trust in the process of changing a company’s media outlook.
Last but definitely not least, my clients. I would like to thank them for trusting me with their online marketing needs, for helping me grow as a professional, and for helping me go from an unemployed pandemic college graduate to a business owner in less than 1 year!
I told you guys the list would end up being long! But again, Valesco Digital was not the product of just one person! I believe every person, every job, every experience, shapes you to become the person you are today!
