We had the good fortune of connecting with Desi Rodgers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desi, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am daily thinking about the risk it takes to operate Desi Daily Coffee Instagram page, soon to be a blog. Many believe Instagram is just pictures and short video clips but I dare to say it is so much more. I have to be aware of my audience and what they desire to see from me. It could be all about me but then how do I engage with people all over the world if I only have me in mind. I daily goal is to influence my coffee besties(friends) to enjoy their daily coffee and to also venture out and try different kinds of coffee. The world of coffee is constantly growing and I want to be apart of it all.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a real estate mortgage processor by day. I like to tell people I was given this profession. Who would have ever thought such a creative person such as myself would daily work with numbers and real estate loans. I find it to be a joy but of course it has its challenges. The mortgage processing career can be one of many rewards but also many failures. At the beginning I was always on pin and needles because I knew my position was not guaranteed. The first full time position I held in the mortgage profession I only had for 8 months and then the department of 100 people was completely shut down. My manager at the time said to me “Desi you are smart and you have drive so whatever you desire to do, know you will be okay and you will win.” With this in mind I was always reluctant to start my IG page. Desi Daily Coffee started off as a hashtags just for me but then I knew I wanted more after a few years. I threw caution to the wind and July 14 2019 I started the instagram page Desi Daily Coffee, two years and counting and I’m ready for so much more.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Coffee shops to visit – Buzz n Bites, Day 6, Uncle Bean, Land of a Thousand hills Places we would shop – Many of the Marshall HomeGoods and TJ Max (my favorite is on west Grey) Galleria Mall and a few of the shops down Westheimer.
Places to eat. Breakfast/ Brunch Lost and Found. Dinner at Moxies they have amazing pasta and cocktails.
Take in a movie at the Roof Top Cinema
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout ALL of my family and friends because they support my love for coffee. I never knew making coffee as a young boy for my mom would turn into an amazing coffee blog. My family and friends are very supportive. They daily send me coffee shops, coffee memes, coffee recipes, etc….. This is all to make sure I experience the best coffee has to offer.
